Zurich is the most expensive city to live in.

Numbeo has updated its ranking of the world's most expensive cities. It includes 547 cities.

Numbeo is an online database where users from around the world submit information about the cost and quality of life in different cities and countries. The site offers information on food and housing prices, crime rates, transportation costs, and much more.

The ranking is based on a cost-of-living index (CLI). It is calculated based on the prices of food, food in cafes and restaurants, transportation, utilities, and other everyday expenses. Rent, mortgages, and property purchases are not included.

Zurich topped the ranking as of mid-2026 with an index of 123.1.

Almost all of the top 10 spots were occupied by Swiss cities, with the exception of Georgetown (Cayman Islands) and Honolulu (USA) in second and tenth place.

Tel Aviv ranked 11th, Washington 15th, London 24th, Paris 49th, and Berlin 101st.

Indian cities were found to be the least expensive to live in. They ranked at the bottom of the rankings, with 19 of them occupying the bottom spots.
