Morning Glory Pool, one of the most popular geothermal springs in Yellowstone National Park, has lost its vibrant blue color due to tourists throwing coins and trash into the water, the New York Post reports.
For many years, visitors violated park regulations, leading to pollution and temperature fluctuations.
According to the reporters, the cooling water caused bacteria to grow, which led to the discoloration of the spring. Initially, the lake had a deep blue hue reminiscent of the morning glory flower, for which the spring gets its name.
The park has repeatedly attempted to clean the pool, removing hundreds of coins and other items from the bottom. Employees used specialized fire trucks to pump water out of the pool, and they used special nets to remove trash from the crater, which is up to 7 meters deep.
It is noted that tourists have recently become more cautious and are less likely to throw objects into the pool.
