British billionaire and Virgin Group founder Richard Branson has confirmed his participation in the world's first commercial hot air balloon flight into the stratosphere. The flight is scheduled for 2025, according to The Independent.
Branson will be one of three members of the expedition, along with Virgin Group co-founders Jane Poynter and Taber McCallum.
Space Perspective will operate the ascent. The capsule, sealed in a sealed compartment, will ascend to an altitude of 32 kilometers, a record for hot air balloons. Renewable hydrogen will be used for a smooth ascent, making the flight environmentally sustainable.
In the future, the company plans to expand the flight's capabilities and carry up to eight passengers per flight. Tickets will cost $125,000.
"I have a passion for adventure and helping fellow entrepreneurs realize their business dreams." "I'm looking forward to dusting off my old hot air balloon license," Branson commented on the news.
