Greek authorities have banned the use of sun loungers and umbrellas at 251 beaches across the country as part of new coastal protection regulations.
According to The Sun, the restrictions are aimed at combating overtourism and preserving the natural landscape. Commercial beach furniture is now prohibited in protected areas, as is capital construction such as concrete piers, breakwaters, and paved walkways.
According to the new regulations, beachgoers will only be allowed to use their own towels on these beaches.
Drones will be used, among other measures, to monitor compliance. Violations will carry hefty fines for both individuals and the owners of cafes and other establishments.
