Europe's longest urban cable car has opened in France.

The French region of Île-de-France officially opened its first urban cable car, making it the longest in Europe. The route, named Cable C1, connects the towns of Créteil and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges in the Val-de-Marne department, BFMTV reports.

The route is 4.5 kilometers long. The new system will reduce travel time from approximately 40 minutes by bus to 18 minutes. Cable C1 is expected to serve up to 11,000 passengers daily and will cover four municipalities: Créteil, Valenton, Limay-Brévent, and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges.

The €132 million project was financed by the French government, the Île-de-France region, and the Val-de-Marne department. The line will feature 105 ten-passenger cabins with intervals of 20-30 seconds. The cabins are adapted for people with limited mobility, cyclists, and strollers, and their speed is adjustable.
