Portugal's capital took first place in a ranking of the world's most vibrant cities, showcasing a palette of over 2.6 million unique shades.
In a study by Irish company JustCover, which analyzed 78 destinations, another Portuguese city, Porto, rounded out the top three.
Lisbon's victory was secured by its famous pastel-colored houses, the patterned azulejos tiles in the Alfama district, and its recognizable yellow trams.
Second place went to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), where a stark contrast between modern skyscrapers and traditional temples was noted.
Porto, which took third place, captivated analysts with its terracotta roofs and colorful buildings along the Douro River.
The top five also included Cartagena, Colombia, with its multicolored balconies, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the Selarón Steps, lined with vibrant tiles, is the main attraction.
Researchers note that in the age of social media, a city's visual aesthetics is becoming a decisive factor for tourists when choosing a holiday destination.
