A 16th-century Spanish palace has been converted into a five-star hotel.
The 16th-century Palacio de Avellaneda in Peñaranda de Duero, Spain, has been transformed into a five-star hotel after a three-year restoration.
The new Castilla Termal property has preserved its historic architecture and features 80 rooms, modern amenities, and thermal treatments.
September rates start at €314.60 per night. The rooms and suites are designed to complement the palace's architecture. For example, the junior suite features a separate sitting area and views of the Plaza de los Duques de Miranda, while the more spacious suite also overlooks the square.
The palace was built in the 16th century by the Zúñiga and Avellaneda families. In 1923, the building was declared a monument, and in 1940, it became state property.
The hotel also features the Los Zúñiga restaurant, located under the arches of the Renaissance cloister. Its menu features dishes made with seasonal local produce, cheeses with quince marmalade and dried fruit, fish and meat dishes, salads, and desserts. A gastrobar, Condes de Miranda, is planned for opening later.
The hotel also welcomes guests with dogs. One pet per room is permitted with advance reservation. A pet bed, a walking area, and a special menu featuring duck, chicken, and lamb dishes are available for pets.
